Serving Hope, Changing Futures
Our Mission
Tennis Africa is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering children in underserved communities in Africa through the sport of tennis.
Beyond the game, we believe in the power of tennis to teach discipline, perseverance, and to build self-confidence – values that extend far beyond the court.
The core of Tennis Africa’s belief is that excellence can be found anywhere; opportunity is not. With your help, we can lay the foundation to make a meaningful difference in their future – one serve at a time.
Current Project
Tennis Africa’s impact is already being felt through our partnership with an orphanage in Cape Coast, Ghana. Home to over 40 children of all ages, the orphanage provides shelter and education but previously lacked access to much needed after-school programs for the children beyond the orphanage walls.
-Daily tennis sessions and structured coaching
-Weekend training sessions with the Ghana Junior National Team
-Tournament play: Last year five children went to the capital of Ghana for the largest tournament in the country. This was the children’s first overnight trip outside the orphanage
-Tournament Sponsorship: Tennis Africa hosted its first tournament in August that drew over 80 players from all over Ghana

Background and Bio
Tennis Africa was founded in 2024 by David Caldwell as a way to introduce tennis to children in underserved areas in Africa. After volunteering at an orphanage in Cape Coast, Ghana with his daughter, David realized the children had no opportunity to pursue other passions outside the orphanage.
David grew up playing tennis in Richmond, VA from the age of 3. After finishing #1 in country in the Boys 18, he attended the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, where he was a 3-time All American and 3-time ACC Player of the Year. After a successful collegiate career, David reached a career high of #170 on the ATP tour. Highlights included 3 main draw grand slam appearances in addition to playing the main draw of multiple ATP level tournaments like the Miami Open. He also reached the 3rd round of the Citi Open in Washington DC in 1999 as well as being a member of the 1997 Davis Cup team versus Brazil.
While traveling the world playing tennis, David fell in love with seeing different parts of the world and experiencing new cultures. He has traveled extensively to over 110 countries. After a 2-decade career in real estate and private equity, he realized he wanted to return to tennis and share the love of the game with a new generation.
